Erawan Arts was founded as an equal partnership between Alexander Robb-Millar from the United Kingdom and the Sippouthavong family from Luang Prabang.
Even before its conception it was imperative to Alexander that he created a business that gave back to the community and he wasn't interested in just applying a bit of 'green wash' to it.
Therefore it was decided to donate a share of the profits to fund several initiatives that were generated to support the local community. Further funding is also gathered through much appreciated and kind donations to the Erawan Foundation.
The initiatives are as follows:-
The Staff
- All weavers and wood-workers are paid above average for their hard work. This ensures the high-end quality that Erawan Arts is becoming known for. Without our highly skilled and proud workers none of this would be possible.
- All staff working in the showroom are also paid above average, but in addition have their studies paid for through a sponsorship program. We hope this will ensure they secure a career they can be happy in while providing a future for themselves and their families.
Communities in Need
- To provide fresh water systems to villages that do not have easy access to a fresh water source.
- To provide books, computers and equipment to schools (that would really benefit from such necessities) to help accelerate and take advantage of the children's learning potential and natural enthusiasm.
- To provide basic healthcare by sourcing reliable medicine and funding medical trips to remote areas.
Other
- In the later half of 2009 it is planned to source a more suitable venue to provide free English tuition to any Lao person who wishes to attend. Lessons are proposed to be twice daily with two hours in the morning and two hours in the afternoon.
