Erawan Arts works with a number of weavers from throughout Laos, each specialising in the fine and complex weaving techniques which over time were on their way to becoming lost altogether.

The reason for such a decline in these skills is mainly due to the influx of mass produced machine fabrics that could be made at a cheaper price - an all too common story across many sectors in today's world. A lot of these cheaper fabrics are made from synthetic materials using chemical dyes. Furthermore, due to the resulting competition, weavers often prefer a quick sale and to create simpler fabrics that can be weaved more swiftly. We are helping to combat this trend by promoting the authentic and intricate weaving techniques thereby preserving them for the future.

At Erawan Arts, ALL of the silk items on display are hand woven from 100% Lao silk produced by silk worms attentively nurtured by the weavers themselves. It is this loyalty and dedication to their work which assures their reputation for providing some of the highest quality silk in Laos.

We have several styles available with some designs handed down from mother to daughter for generations, and some going back over 400 years such as those derived from the antique textiles commissioned by the ancient royal courts.

However, along with traditional designs we also have contemporary styles to complement the chicest of fashion schemes. The range extends to include exquisite wall hangings, luxurious bed runners and spectacular window adornments.

During a visit to our showroom the quality of the silk on display is instantly noticeable and second to none. Every one of our diligent weavers takes great pride in their work knowing that their creations are being displayed all over the world.

Commissioning Your Own Design

If there is a particular design that you would like to see in a wall hanging or other silk item, then Erawan Arts is able to achieve this for you. This can simply be done by either handing in a photo or a computer file, either in person or via e-mail if you would prefer. The later is a good option should you be planning a trip to Laos and would like to collect the item during your visit. However please allow enough time for it's manufacture, which will vary depending on the type of silk and weave that you would like.

We are more than happy to discuss the options with you and offer advice if you so desire - just contact us for more details. If you will not be travelling to Laos, or are unable to make it to Luang Prabang, then we will be happy to mail the item to you.

All that will be required is a 50% deposit at the time of order, with the final 50% payable upon collection or prior to shipment.
