All of the exotic wood found at Erawan Arts has been crafted by our specialised wood workers located from around Laos, each specialising in their own particular creations. However, whether they be our unique figurines, home-wares items, Buddha heads, or chopsticks each piece has been through an unbelievably laborious process - involving soaking, drying and toughening cycles, not to mentioned hours of meticulous fashioning, sanding and finishing procedures.

Due to this unique process it is almost impossible to achieve the same beauty and finish other than the expertise created by our own craftsmen and craftswomen. Furthermore, as each product is hand crafted and the pattern of the wood grain is never the same, the proud owner will have that 'one of a kind' masterpiece.

While we don't use a lot of wood on the whole, all wood does come from sustainable sources and sectors that are strictly monitored with the use of quotas in effect. Furthermore, waste materials are minimized as off-cuts can be used for smaller products, with any waste being sent on for use in a variety of other processes from paper manufacture to pig feed.

There are two main types of wood which are used for our products, that of Rosewood, and Black and White Ebony species. Fortunately Rosewood has two types of beautiful wood grain that we make use of - the regular straight lined wood grain of the tree trunk, and that of the highly desirable burl that gives the wood a spectacular marble effect.

Another wood that we use is the rare 'Mai Loung Laeng' which has an astonishingly aromatic scent that is renowned by the locals for it's healing qualities.
